Biography

Portrait of the artist/grant writer

I come to grant writing as an artist, a writer, and a cultural worker. I recently completed an MA in Art Education (2025) at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My research was focused on working across disciplines by uniting social practice, pedagogy, and ethnography to conduct research that revealed findings on participants feelings and experiences towards hospitality and inviting in Halifax or Canada (link to research coming in the Fall 2025).

I’ve also recently completed a two-year contract position as a Project Coordinator for a research project called The Flaxmobile Project: Closing the Material Security Gap across Mi’kma’ki: Nova Scotia.

I paused my grant writing services during my master’s degree but for a history of my previous clients and successes please visit the home page. I have been successful securing awards currently totalling up to $400,000. Clients have included emerging visual artists, dance performers, street dance artists, choreographers, singers, game developers, grass-roots organizations and public art galleries such as the Vancouver Street Dance Association and Lake Country Art Gallery, both in BC. I’ve also served on the Board of Outsiders & Others–a non-profit society focused on bringing non-traditional artists to the forefront.

I am a second generation Italian Canadian currently living and practicing in Kjipuktuk: Halifax on unceded Mi’kma’ki Territory in Nova Scotia.

My creative practice can be seen at my portfolio website: laurabucci.com
