akeisha de baat | dancer

Happy to have worked with Akeisha de Baat on her first grant application. This application secured $9,700 for the Early Career Development grant from the BC Arts Council.

This grant allowed Akeisha to be an artist in residence with Dances for a Small Stage, in Vancouver, British Columbia, under Artistic Producer, Julie-Anne Saroyan. This self-made residency spanned seven months from September 2016 to March 2017.  As an artist in residence, Akeisha was able to develop cultural-entrepreneurial skills, navigate the art scene from a business perspective and begin to network amongst those established in her field. The residency also provided an excellent platform to develop a deeper understanding of her own artistic craft through one-on-one exploration of movement, and enhancing and pushing her own boundaries through mentorships from Small Stage artistic associates.
